MBA/MCA seat sharing talks
Chennai: Discussions on seat sharing for admission to MBA/MCA courses in arts and science and engineering colleges and standalone institutions are expected to conclude within a week.
During a discussion between the Higher Education Secretary and representatives of over 300 colleges held at the Anna University on Saturday, the Government put forward a proposal similar to seat sharing in engineering courses: 50 per cent seats to be surrendered by minority institutions and 65 per cent by non-minority institutions to the single window system of counselling.
College managements, however, wanted to surrender only 30 per cent of seats from non-minority institutions. Further talks are on to resolve the issue. The total intake for MBA seats in the State is 9,410 (including 4,517 government seats) and for MCA is 12,450 (including 6,608 government seats).
In all, 21,667 candidates had taken the MBA entrance exam this
year and 20,280 the MCA entrance.
