Panel formed to determine fate of CET
Chennai: The State Government has set up a seven-member panel,
headed by academic M. Anandakrishnan, to go into the issue of
scrapping the common entrance test as a mode of admission to
professional undergraduate courses. The panel has been constituted
with a view to doing away with the CET from the academic year
2007-08, as it was found to be an unnecessary burden and the
need was felt to create equal opportunities for both urban and
rural students in the admissions, a release here said. The panel
also includes the Secretaries of Law, Higher Education, Health
and Family Welfare, apart from individual panelists K. Parthasarathy
and C. Thangamuthu. The Commissioner of Technical Education
will function as Member-Secretary.
