AICTE approves new engineering college
Chennai: The All India Council for Technical Education has approved one more engineering college, Alpha College of Engineering in Tamil Nadu for the academic year 2006-07.
Part of the Alpha Group of Educational Institutions, the college in the first year will offer under graduate programmes in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology and Biomedical Engineering, according to college promoters. The intake would be 240, with 60 seats in each branch.
With this, the State now has 254 institutions offering B.E/B.Tech degrees with a total intake crossing 80,400 seats.
This includes 240 colleges affiliated to the Anna University. About ten colleges offer biomedical engineering or bio medical instrumentation courses. V.R. Rengaraju, an experienced academic, will be the first principal. Located at Thirumazhisai near Poonamallee, the college will have a Centre for Advanced Bio-Medical Instrumentation, a Rs. 2 crore facility equipped with a CT Scan, Ultra Sound Scan and advanced X-Ray systems in its 60 acre campus.
