Two private medical colleges permitted to hold joint entrance test
- Tamil Nadu Private Professional Colleges Association-Health Sciences will conduct CET on July 23
- Christian Medical College, Vellore, permitted to have its own procedure
- For NRI quota of 15 per cent seats, admissions must be completed by September 30
Chennai: The Permanent Committee for the Conduct of the Common Entrance Test took on Saturday three major decisions on admissions to private medical colleges in Tamil Nadu.
The two private medical colleges, Chettinad Medical College (150 seats) and the PSG Medical College (100 seats), were permitted to hold a joint entrance test on July 15. They should follow the single window system of admission and the rule of reservation.
The Tamil Nadu Private Professional Colleges Association-Health Sciences, comprising six dental colleges and other paramedical institutions, would conduct their CET on July 23. They too must follow reservation.
Given its "special features," the Christian Medical College, Vellore, which has 60 seats, was permitted to have its own procedure.
The orders were passed by the committee, headed by Justice S.S. Subramani. However, a detailed order on selection and composition of question papers and the methodology to be adopted during the admission would be made available in a day or two, the judge said.
Talking to presspersons, he said the two private colleges floated a new forum: Tamil Nadu Private Medical Colleges Association (TNPMCA). It would start issuing applications on June 21, and the last date would be July 5. While the entrance test would be held in Chennai and Coimbatore on July 15, the results would be declared on July 24. Counselling would be conducted on July 26. The admission process should be completed by July 30, and classes must commence on August 1.
For the NRI quota of 15 per cent seats, admissions must be completed by September 30. The NRI quota seats and the vacancies due to the non-filling up of these seats should be filled by September 30.
As for the dental and paramedical courses, issue of applications would begin on June 19, and the last date would be July 15. The entrance test will be held on July 23, and the results would be declared on July 31. Admission, to begin on August 10, would be completed by August 31. The association would hold the test at seven centres in Tamil Nadu and one each in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
